Views of Windhoek -- Capital of Namibia

The German war monument in the center of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Right: the German Lutheran Church of Christ.

Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, is a pleasant and compact city which is easily explored on foot. Traces of the German colonial past of Namibia (Deutsch Südwestafrika) can be found in many corners of downtown Windhoek.

Aerial view of downtown Windhoek. The charm of the city consists in its situation amidst the hills of the vast savannah highland in the vicinity of the Namib and Kalahari deserts.

I visited Namibia in August 2001.
